SAFER. FASTER. CLEARER.

Lowering the dose makes CT an easier choice
Capital Radiology Vermont is the first community based radiology service to install the Siemens SOMATOM™ Definition AS 64 Slice CT with IRIS, a low dose CT scanner that adapts radiation dose to the patient and clinical investigation.
Whilst we use ionising radiation modalities only where necessary the guiding clinical principle is to use As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) dose. By applying Iterative Reconstruction in Image Space (IRIS) software dose reduction of greater than 60% across a wide range of clinical applications can be achieved without degrading imaging quality. Lowered dose and IRIS will be automatically applied to all CT scans where appropriate. Referrers to Capital Radiology Vermont do not need to make a specific request.
Faster diagnosis means faster treatment and management.
Some patients find it hard to remain still during a CT. Children, patients with dementia, those with a cough or in considerable pain are just some examples. The fast scanning times of the 64 slice low dose CT means whole organs can be captured in a second, the heart in 5 beats and from head to toe in under 10 seconds. Disease is pinpointed earlier giving more information to plan and track treatment sooner.
Meeting the needs of the community patient
Because Capital Radiology Vermont is a community based practice your patients avoid the long waits often experienced at hospitals. The faster throughput of the machine also provides greater availability of appointments. Urgent cases will be accommodated on the same day as the request.
Our newly refurbished CT suite enables direct access to the CT room so in-patients transported by ambulance from other facilities such as nursing homes and hospitals can be easily transferred to the CT room without the need to go through the department.
